languages

As I see you speak quite a lot of languages?

Languages like German, English and Spanish I use on a daily bases. I have learned to live, to think, to work, to write, to debate, to give seminars and to coach PR rhetoric in these three languages. And by organizing groups of travelers or expats this becomes a daily routine.

My mobile device, some programs and operation systems (OS) also have different languages. I even change sometimes OS languages to force my flexibility. It is helpful when running a seminar or incentive with groups from different countries to switch simultaneous languages.
Mostly I prepare my concepts or articles in the relevant language and then I translate it, including to my native language German.
In Spanish I had to learn additionally Valencian / Catalan to be able to follow internal conversations in regional Meetings.

Generally I improve my knowledge by reading 3-4 hours a day about economics, tech, politics, yachting, traveling etc in various languages. Furthermore I listen to podcasts, videos and I publish on a daily basis articles in several magazines.

French, Italian, Russian, Chinese I use mainly for journalistic article adaptations in own yachting and real estate magazines, or for on-line communication.

In 2018 I started to bring French and Chinese (Mandarin) to the next level. For Mandarin I developed my own learning App to see the light in the tunnel.
And to establish some business connections in Asia I studied some basics of the Vietnamese and Thai language.

Let's jump back a few years.
I started to add more languages when I came to Spain in 2000. Almost no one of the Spaniards in branches like real estate, yachting, law etc. had communication skills in other languages. Foreigners made the deals as middleman.
So I set up rapidly a few websites for real estate, yacht charter and a law information. I added 18 European languages, specially the northern ones and trained in each language how to start conversations on the phone or by email and … finally how to close the deal with a language mix. It was working well from the very beginning as everybody felt pleased to get attended in his native language and every client gave a lot of effort.
Beside I was consulting big developers on the Spanish coast to reach out for foreign markets.
